About Dr. Houston

Dr. Houston specializes in the diagnoses and treatment of psychiatric and emotional problems in children, adolescents, and adults. Since graduating from medical school, he has received extensive training in different psychotherapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. His approach to practice involves working collaboratively with individuals and their families to develop a full understanding of their difficulties and then tailoring treatment to match their natural strengths.

Dr. Houston is double Board Certified in General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. After finishing residency in Adult Psychiatry at the George Washington Univiersity Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Children's National Medical Center. Dr. Houston then completed advance training in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis at the Baltimore Washington Center for Psychoanalysis.
Upon graduation from fellowship Dr. Houston worked as the medical director for Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at the George Washington Medical Center. He continues to serve on its faculty as a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics. In 2015, He was honored to recieve the Elaine W Cutlove for Excellence in Psychiatric Education.

Dr. Houston has been elected to membership in the American College of Psychiatry and selected to be a Distinguished Fellow within the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. He served in leadership positions in both national and local professional societies including as President of the Washington Psychiatric Society and as President of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Society of Greater Washington. He has been selected as a Top Doctor by the Washingtonian Magazine over several years
